Car Key Replacement
& Programming

We come to your location and cut + program a new car key on-site — no tow, no appointment. Up to 75% less than the dealer for most vehicles.

On-site car key service — no tow required

My Locksmith Express dispatches a fully-equipped tech to wherever your car is — parking lot, home, office, or roadside. We cut the key blade and program the chip or proximity fob from our van using the same OEM-compatible software dealers use, without the dealer's scheduling wait or towing fee.

Dealer service typically means a tow, a next-day appointment, and a $300–$500 bill for a smart key. We handle most jobs in 30–45 minutes on-site for 40–75% less — and we give you a firm price before anyone drives out.

We don't service European luxury vehicles (BMW, Audi, Mercedes-Benz, Volkswagen, Porsche). Those require manufacturer credentials and tooling that only the dealer has — for those brands we recommend going directly to the dealer.

European Luxury — BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Audi, Porsche, Volkswagen

Most independent locksmiths decline all European vehicles. We don't — but our capability is genuinely platform-dependent, and we will tell you upfront what we can and can't do. A 30-second call with your year, model, and VIN is all it takes to get an honest yes or no.

Typically workable

  • BMW — all years, all platforms (CAS3 / CAS4 / FEM / BDC)
  • Mercedes-Benz — 2014 and earlier (pre-FBS4)
  • Volkswagen — 2018 and earlier (pre-MQB-Evo)
  • Audi — case-by-case by platform, 30-second VIN check
  • Porsche — case-by-case by platform, 30-second VIN check

Needs phone qualification

  • Mercedes-Benz 2015+ — FBS3/FBS4 encryption requires manufacturer-only access
  • Volkswagen 2019+ — MQB-Evo platform limits on-site programming
  • BMW M-series and high-security trims — confirm year + platform
  • Post-2020 high-security EVs (Porsche Taycan, Audi e-tron, etc.)

Mercedes-Benz note

We service Mercedes-Benz 2014 and earlier only. For 2015+ Mercedes, the dealer is the right call — FBS3/FBS4 encryption requires manufacturer-only access we don't have. We'll tell you this clearly the moment you give us the year.

Car key replacement — frequently asked questions

How much does a car key replacement cost in Charlotte?
It depends on the key type. A transponder key typically runs $125–$195. Smart keys (push-button start) run $175–$280. Having a working key cuts the cost — duplicates start at $65. We give you a firm range before dispatch, so you know the number before we arrive.
How long does on-site programming take?
Most transponder and remote head keys: 20–30 minutes. Smart / proximity keys: 30–45 minutes. All-keys-lost situations: 45–90 minutes, depending on the vehicle's immobilizer system.
Can you make a key without the original?
Yes — this is called all-keys-lost (AKL). It takes longer and costs $50–$150 more than a standard duplicate because we must perform a full re-learn of the immobilizer. We handle AKL for most US and Asian brands.
Do you service BMW?
Yes — we service BMW across all years and platforms, including CAS3, CAS4, FEM, and BDC systems. Call with your year, model, and VIN for a quick quote.
Can you replace a Mercedes-Benz key?
We service Mercedes-Benz 2014 and earlier. From 2015 onward, Mercedes uses FBS3/FBS4 encryption that requires manufacturer-only access — those vehicles need the dealer. Give us your year and model and we'll tell you in 30 seconds.
Do you service Volkswagen, Audi, or Porsche?
Volkswagen: yes, through model year 2018. From 2019, MQB-Evo encryption limits on-site programming. Audi and Porsche are case-by-case by year and platform — call with year + model + VIN and we confirm immediately.
Is it really cheaper than the dealer?
Typically 40–75% cheaper. Dealers charge $300–$500+ for smart keys with a half-day wait. We charge $175–$280 for the same key, programmed in 30–45 minutes on-site. Savings are largest on luxury brands and all-keys-lost jobs.
