ANSI Grade 1 deadbolts
Most builder-installed bolts are Grade 3 — the lowest rating. A Grade 1 bolt with a 1-inch throw is the single cheapest upgrade against forced entry.

Should I rekey or replace my locks after buying a home?
Rekey, in almost every case. When you buy or rent a home in Charlotte, you have no idea how many key copies exist — previous owners, neighbors, cleaners, contractors. If the hardware is in good shape, rekeying makes every old key useless and costs far less than replacement. We replace only locks that are worn, damaged, or below the security grade you want.
How much does it cost to rekey a whole house?
Most 3-4 bedroom homes in the Charlotte and Lake Norman area have 3-5 exterior locks, and the whole-house rekey includes fresh keys and keyed-alike pinning (one key for every door). Tell us the lock count on the phone and we quote the exact flat price before we drive out.
How long does rekeying take?
About 10-15 minutes per lock. A typical whole-house rekey is done in under an hour, including cutting fresh keys and testing every door in front of you.
Can you make all my locks work with one key?
Yes — it's called keying alike, and we do it during any rekey at no extra charge, as long as the locks share a compatible keyway (most big-brand residential locks do). One key then opens the front door, back door, garage entry, and any other exterior lock we pin.
Which smart lock do you recommend?
For most Charlotte homes: Schlage Encode if you want built-in Wi-Fi with no hub, Yale Assure if you want a clean keypad look, August if you want to keep your existing deadbolt and add smarts inside. Do I need to be home for residential locksmith work?
Yes. For any entry, rekey, or lock change we verify you live there — a lease, deed, utility bill, or ID matching the address. It takes thirty seconds, and it's the reason you can trust a licensed locksmith with your home in the first place.
Can you open my house without damaging the lock?
In almost all cases, yes. We pick or bypass residential locks non-destructively — no drilling, no broken hardware, and the same key works afterward. Drilling is a genuine last resort reserved for failed or high-security cylinders, and we tell you before touching anything.
My key sticks or needs jiggling — can that be fixed?
Usually. A sticking lock is either a worn key, worn pins, or a misaligned strike — all fixable on-site for less than a replacement. If the cylinder is genuinely at end of life, we'll show you why and quote a replacement on the spot.
