Hyundai Motor Group platform — Genesis edition
Genesis separated from Hyundai in 2017, but the Smart Key architecture stayed in the family. All current Genesis models — G70, G80, G90, GV60, GV70, GV80 — use Hyundai Motor Group's passive entry proximity platform, the same system underpinning the Hyundai Sonata, Santa Fe, Palisade, and Kia K900. Same tooling, different badge, higher trim level.
This matters for service: our high volume of Hyundai and Kia work translates directly to Genesis. The programming procedure for a GV80 Prestige runs the same Autel IM608 workflow as a Hyundai Santa Fe Calligraphy. The difference is the fob part number and the price point — Genesis uses premium fobs that sit at the top of the Hyundai Group price band.
Pre-2017 "Hyundai Genesis Sedan" models (2015–2016) are on the earlier Hyundai transponder platform, not the current proximity system. Still fully within our tooling — just a different key system than the current Genesis lineup. Year + model tells the whole story.

Transponder Key (early Genesis sedan)
The Genesis G80 and G90 launched in 2015–2016 while Genesis was still Hyundai's flagship trim line. Early versions used a standard transponder or remote head key from the Hyundai/Kia shared platform. Must be cut and programmed — cut-only won't start the engine.

Hyundai Smart Key / Remote Head (2017–2020)
Following the 2017 brand split, all Genesis models adopted Hyundai's Smart Key proximity platform. Walk-up unlock and push-to-start. Same architecture as Hyundai Sonata, Santa Fe, and Kia K900 — shared tooling across the Hyundai Motor Group. Fob must be cut and programmed.

Genesis Smart Key / Passive Entry (2021+)
Current Genesis models use an updated Hyundai Motor Group proximity key system with enhanced passive entry and push-to-start. The key architecture remains Hyundai-family, making it fully within our tooling coverage. Trim variability matters: G70 Standard vs. Sport Prestige and GV80 Standard vs. Prestige may have different fob configurations.

Genesis Digital Key (smartphone — not a locksmith job)
Genesis introduced Digital Key on the 2021 G80 and GV80 — the ability to use an iPhone or Android as a key via NFC/UWB. This is a Genesis Connected Services feature activated through the Genesis app and tied to your vehicle account. A locksmith cannot program or add a Digital Key — it requires the Genesis app, an active subscription, and pairing through the owner's account. We can replace the physical proximity fob; we cannot activate Digital Key.

Genesis has grown its Charlotte footprint steadily since the 2017 brand split. GV80 and G80 calls come predominantly from SouthPark, Lake Norman waterfront communities (Cornelius, Mooresville, Davidson), and the premium residential corridors of Ballantyne and Waxhaw. GV70 and G70 calls come from younger luxury buyer demographics in Midtown, NoDa, and south Charlotte.
Charlotte has one Genesis dealership, which means most Genesis owners in the metro are making a conscious choice to service with an independent — and mobile service is the obvious option when you're stranded. We see a steady stream of GV80 and G80 AKL calls from the lake corridor where a lost key at the marina or boat launch means no tow option is preferable.

Genesis key FAQ
Is Genesis the same as Hyundai? Does that affect key programming?+
Genesis became an independent luxury brand in 2017, fully separating from the Hyundai nameplate. However, Genesis vehicles remain part of the Hyundai Motor Group and share Hyundai's Smart Key platform architecture. This is a good thing for service: our tooling covers the full Hyundai Motor Group platform, which means Genesis, Hyundai, and Kia all fall within the same programming infrastructure. A 2022 Genesis GV80 and a 2022 Hyundai Santa Fe use the same fundamental proximity platform.
What is Genesis Digital Key and can you add one?+
Genesis Digital Key is a feature on 2021+ G80 and GV80 (and select later models) that lets you use an iPhone or Android phone as a key via NFC and UWB technology. It is activated through the Genesis Connected Services app and tied to your vehicle's account — not to a physical fob. A locksmith cannot program or provision a Digital Key. We can replace your physical proximity fob; Digital Key is entirely an app and subscription function that goes through your Genesis account. If Digital Key is your goal, contact Genesis Connected Services.
I have a 2015 'Hyundai Genesis' — is that different from a 2018 Genesis G80?+
Yes. The 2015–2016 'Hyundai Genesis Sedan' was produced before Genesis became an independent brand. It uses a Hyundai-platform transponder or remote head key, not the current Smart Key proximity system. The 2017 brand split brought the current Genesis lineup (G70, G80, G90, GV60, GV70, GV80) on an updated platform. Both are within our tooling coverage, but they're different key systems — which is why we ask for year + model before quoting.
Does trim level matter for Genesis key programming?+
It can. Genesis uses trim differentiation within models — G70 Standard vs. Sport Prestige and GV80 Standard vs. Prestige can have different fob configurations. The programming procedure is the same, but the fob part number differs, which affects pricing slightly. This is why we ask for trim level or VIN before dispatch — 30 seconds on the phone prevents a wrong-part situation on-site.
Can you do Genesis all-keys-lost?+
Yes. Genesis AKL is within our capability for all current models (G70, G80, G90, GV60, GV70, GV80) and the 2017+ platform. AKL means full proximity re-enrollment — we start from scratch without a working key present. It adds $50–$150 and 20–40 minutes over the base Smart Key price. We quote the total before dispatch. No tow needed.
Is there a service call fee if you can't help?+
No. We verify capability on the phone using your VIN before dispatch. If a specific build or model year is outside our tooling window, we say so upfront — no trip charge.
