My 2016 Tacoma SR5 has push-to-start. Is that a smart key or a regular key?

Push-to-start means a smart proximity key (HYQ14FBA). There's no blade — the fob stays in your pocket. We program replacements on-site starting at $220. The SR trim (base) without push-to-start uses a remote head key (GQ4-52T) starting at $175.

I have a 2012 Tacoma — the key fob still works but the truck sometimes doesn't recognize it. What's wrong?

On 2nd gen Tacomas, the GQ43VT20T fob's rolling code can desync from the receiver after battery swaps or extended parking. We re-sync the fob and, if the chip is failing, cut a new programmed key on-site starting at $150.

Does the 2024 Tacoma use a completely different key than the 2023?

The 4th gen 2024 Tacoma redesign introduced a new key card format in addition to the standard fob. The fob FCC ID is HYQ14FBX, same as late 3rd gen. The card key is a separate piece — call us before ordering anything for a 2024 model so we can confirm which system your specific trim uses.
