Hyundai Elantra Key Replacement
The Elantra was ground zero for the Charlotte theft wave — CMPD documented more than a 2,000% increase in Kia and Hyundai thefts in 2023, and the Elantra was the most common vehicle in that surge. The scenario we see repeatedly: owner's car is recovered by CMPD, but the keys were in the car when it was stolen and are now gone. Same-day key replacement on a recovered Elantra is a real service need, not just a curiosity.
Three distinct key generations span the theft-vulnerable and post-immobilizer era. MD generation (2011–2016) and AD generation (2017–2021) shipped without engine immobilizers on most trim levels — these are the vehicles the TikTok steering-column attack targeted. The CN7 generation (2022+) added immobilizer standard and requires Hyundai security gateway access for key programming, which many Charlotte locksmiths are not set up to provide. We carry blanks for all three generations.
Key types by year — Hyundai Elantra
| Years | Key type | FCC ID | Starting price |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2011–2016 (MD gen — all trims, no push-start) | Keyless entry remote fob (OSLOKA-360T, 315 MHz) | OSLOKA-360T | $150 |
| 2017–2021 (AD gen — SE / Eco, no push-start) | Keyless entry remote fob (OSLOKA-423T, 433 MHz) | OSLOKA-423T | $150 |
| 2017–2021 (AD gen — Sport / SEL / Limited with push-start) | Smart proximity key (CQOFD00120, 434 MHz) | CQOFD00120 | $220 |
| 2022–2024 (CN7 gen — all trims, immobilizer standard) | Smart proximity key (NYOMBEC5FOB2004, 434 MHz, HITAG-AES 6A chip) | NYOMBEC5FOB2004 | $220 |
- 2011–2016 (MD gen — all trims, no push-start): No engine immobilizer on most trim levels — primary theft-wave target. Recovered vehicles: inspect ignition cylinder before programming a new key.
- 2017–2021 (AD gen — SE / Eco, no push-start): AD gen base and mid trims. Still lacked immobilizer through 2021 on non-push-start configurations — same theft profile as MD generation.
- 2017–2021 (AD gen — Sport / SEL / Limited with push-start): Push-to-start trims. Same FCC ID as 2015–2017 Sonata LF push-start. Theft risk lower on these trims due to push-start hardware.
- 2022–2024 (CN7 gen — all trims, immobilizer standard): Immobilizer added standard post-theft-wave. PN 95440-AA100. Requires Hyundai security gateway access — many Charlotte mobile locksmiths are not credentialed for this. We are.

Common issues we see with Hyundai Elantra in Charlotte
- Recovered Elantra: the TikTok theft method involved a USB-B cable or screwdriver in the steering column. Even if the key works, the cylinder may be cracked or misaligned — test before calling it fixed.
- Blank confusion at the parts store: OSLOKA-360T (2011–2016) and OSLOKA-423T (2016–2020) cover overlapping years. A 2016 Elantra may take either depending on production date — bring VIN to confirm.
- 2022+ Elantra requires Hyundai security gateway credentials to program any key — dealer or a gateway-credentialed locksmith. Most Charlotte roadside locksmiths cannot complete this job.
- Hyundai's 2023 anti-theft software update (available for pre-2022 models) adds an ignition delay to deter theft but does not add a full immobilizer. Key programming on updated models takes slightly longer — normal, not a fault.
Why not the Hyundai dealer?
Lake Norman Hyundai (20520 Chartwell Center Drive, Cornelius — same city as our shop) quotes $275–$375 for Elantra key replacement. Their service lane backs up during theft-recovery spikes — we program on-site at your location, including impound lots and CMPD vehicle release points.
