Why Honda Ignitions Fail (And How We Fix It)
Honda uses "High Security Laser Cut" keys. Over time, the internal "wafers" wear down and jam the cylinder. The dealership will try to sell you a new lock housing for $700+. My Locksmith Express rebuilds your existing lock with new, stronger components for a fraction of the price.
🔧 The "Rebuild" Service
- Remove & Inspect: We carefully remove the cylinder.
- New Wafers: We replace worn tumblers with fresh ones.
- New Key Shell: We cut a fresh key to factory specs.
- Lifetime Fix: Solving the root cause, not just a band-aid.
🔑 Broken Key Extraction
- Snapped Key? Common in older Civics and Elements.
- Safe Removal: We extract the broken piece without drilling.
- Key Cutting: We decode the broken pieces to make a new key.
- Mobile: We come to your home or work parking lot.
🚗 Full Replacement
- Severe Damage: If the housing is cracked, we replace it.
- Rekeying: We code the new ignition to match your Door Key.
- Immobilizer Sync: We program the chip to start the engine.

Honda Ignition FAQ
My key goes in, but won't turn at all. Why?
This is the classic "Honda Split Wafer" issue. The tiny metal wafers inside the lock have worn down and are sticking out, preventing the cylinder from rotating. It requires a rebuild.
Do I need to change my door keys too?
No! Unlike the dealership (which might give you a separate ignition key), we REKEY the new or rebuilt ignition to match your existing door keys. You keep using one key for everything.
Is it cheaper than the Honda Dealership?
Yes, significantly. Dealerships often replace the entire steering lock assembly (casting + cylinder + switch) and charge for towing. We only repair the cylinder itself, saving you hundreds of dollars.
How long does the repair take?
Our experienced technicians can usually remove, rebuild, and reinstall a Honda ignition in 45 to 60 minutes. We do it right in your driveway.
